Ice Industries Grenada Gains ISO 14001:2004 Recertification
GRENADA, MS – May 8, 2014 – Ice Industries Grenada today announced that its ISO 14001:2004 status has been recertified. This recertification indicates Ice Industries Grenada employs an effective environmental management system, and demonstrates Ice’s commitment towards the environment, operational excellence, and its customers.
ISO 14001:2004 defines the criteria for an organization’s environmental management system. It can address a multitude of areas, including a reduction in energy usage, recycling resources ranging from metal to water, and minimizing pollution of any kind.
Although Ice Industries Grenada has been ISO 14001 certified since late 2004, the facility’s continuous improvement philosophy was in evidence during the three-day audit by its third party auditor, which produced zero non-compliances. “The auditor gave some great feedback regarding Grenada's focus on our continuous improvement culture,” summarized Daryl Burcham, Ice Industries Grenada’s Operations Manager. Amongst the comments received were “The engagement was remarkable; there is definitely a culture of improvement across the plant and the management team is certainly engaged.”
Some of the facility’s recent environmental efforts have focused on:
- The 5S program and initiatives;
- Steel storage and shop organization; and,
- Improved records and process management.
Don Williams, Ice Industries Grenada’s Environmental Health and Safety Coordinator viewed the recertification as an opportunity to congratulate all those who take the ISO 14001:2004 philosophies to heart every working day. “Being certified – or recertified – without even a minor non-compliance, is a significant achievement. It certainly wouldn’t have been possible without consistent and conscious thought and vigilance from everyone here at Grenada.”
